St. Maarten Carnival 2017

The St. Maarten Carnival is celebrated every year on the island and lasts for weeks!  In fact there are two carnivals on the island, with the smaller of the two celebrated before Lent on the French side.  The largest St. Maarten Carnival takes place on the Dutch side starting in April and the main parade is dedicated to the Queen of the Netherlands.  The biggest event of the entire Carnival is the grand carnival parade which hosts a huge variety of floats, music and costumes and lasts 4 to 5 hours.  Some of these costumes and floats have been in the making for an entire year!  We have never been to Carnival before and this was quite an experience not to be missed!  We had hundreds of pictures and just couldn’t decide which to post, so please enjoy the best!
