St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

We departed Puerto Rico on February 19, 2016 and set sail for St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, only 49 miles away due east.  Near the coast of St. Thomas we spotted our very first whale from our boat and she put on quite a show for us!  We anchored on the waterfront of Charlotte Amalie, where we have spent most of our time here so far.  This is a protected anchorage for all direction except the south, although it can be a bit rolly at times.  There is a lot of activity, traffic, music, shopping, dining, and noise in this town.  Our first guests were Dave and Julie, our sailing friends from Michigan.  They escaped the cold up North to spend some warm, sunny days in St. Thomas.  We did some cruising, beach time, free jazz concert, and a ferry trip to the island of St. John.  Our next guests were my Uncle Don and Aunt Dale spending one day in St. Thomas from their cruise ship.  We had a great visit catching up and touring the town of Charlotte Amalie.  There are cruise ships almost daily and we are anchored near the larger of the two cruise ship docks.  Several of our cruising buddies are here, China Rose and Tulum III, as we keep each company at all of the bars and dining establishments.  There is much history here with buildings over 300 years old and we spent some time walking and taking pictures of historic buildings and places.
